On New Year’s Eve, 1862, Eugene T. Reudhomme and his wife Pernetta “sold to Grace Church White Plains”, for one dollar, the lot that became the northwest corner of Main and Church Streets, and the current home of Grace Church. The physical plant of the church itself includes a granite-stone, tile roofed church which dates from 1864 and seats approximately 300 people at capacity. Both sides of the Church are lined with pictorial stained glass windows and permanent Stations of the Cross Plaques. At the north end of the church there is a large sanctuary and a freestanding high altar. There is also a small chapel area which is not physically separated from the main body of the church, and is used for regular seating during Sunday services. A balcony constructed in the rear of the church-proper houses the organ. The Columbarium, located in the renovated bell tower was recently expanded and new furnishings are expected by 4th quarter 2008. There is also a relatively large Sacristy located east of the Altar.
In 1967-68, a brick parish hall was constructed. The first floor is comprised of a parish hall (large assembly room), kitchen, rest rooms, library (also used as a meeting room), music/choir room, 2 conference rooms, sexton’s storage area and a second entrance to the Sacristy from the hallway.
In the mid to late 1980’s, a capital campaign allowed Grace Church to construct a grand balcony in the rear of the church, purchase and install a Guilbault-Therien pipe organ and relocated the choir to this space.
In the mid to late 1990’s, two capital campaigns were conducted; one to perform major repairs and renovations of the Church; and second, in conjunction with Grace Church Community Center. These campaigns along with several grants and money from the Church’s endowment, allowed for the expansion and renovation of the kitchen, bathrooms and other work on the Parish Hall building.
As of 2008, the parish hall building has been almost completely renovated, including but not limited to thermal windows, central air conditioning, new lighting, and ceilings, attractive modern flooring, fresh plaster and paint, new plumbing and electrical services, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, expanded sprinkler, alarm and surveillance systems. The Church building was plastered, painted and installation of a central air conditioning system for the Church has been completed.
