Dear Friend,
Welcome to the Grace Church web-site. I hope that through it you will gain a sense of this uniquely warm and vibrant faith community in the heart of downtown White Plains. Grace’s beautiful sanctuary is open all day Sunday and Tuesday through Friday, offering a midweek haven for quiet meditation in addition to inspirational worship. Think about joining us for mid-week services as scheduled (see our Worship page) in addition to the full schedule of Sunday Eucharistic worship.
Those who have prayed here for more than 180 years have infused the space with a peaceful, natural holiness, like a place T. S. Eliot described in his poem, “Little Gidding”:
You can also enjoy a mid-week concert with Downtown Music on Wednesdays from 12:10 – 12:45 PM, one of New York’s “Best Bets.” Or you can get involved with Grace Church Community Center’s widely appreciated outreach lunch in the Parish Hall.
This busy corner, where Church Street intersects Main Street, is a place to know God’s constancy in the midst of life’s uncertain business. I promise you will discover a transforming gift here. When anyone asks me to name our greatest strength, I say it is joy; the ineffable joy of the Holy Spirit. As a community at prayer we confirm that “Only in God can we live in safety.” (Book of Common Prayer, page 97). That peace of God - that really does surpass rational thought or reasoned explanation - can remake your day and set your life on new ground.
Explore the site, call and visit us in person. We invite you to make your spiritual home with us. Grace stood firm when churches were encouraged to move out to North Street by city planners. Now it is here for you, in the middle of work and errands. Spend a little time on God’s unchanging ground, right in the heart of it all. We stayed here for you - stranger, traveler, friend - to connect with the eternal love of God.
Faithfully,
Jane
