Sunday in Honduras

We had planned to do a little more with the blog, but the computer resources are not the best, and we have been pretty busy!

This morning we left early to visit two homes of the boys.  They live in a village called Corralitos, which is in the mountains.  We spent about 45 minutes on an unpaved road on the way to the village, with stunning scenery most of the way.

The two homes we visited were very basic.  They have no electricity, and are very small, but they were homey and clean, and we were welcomed as special guests.  (Not having electricity means no refrigerator, no lights at night, etc.)  The mom of the first house made us coffee from beans her family had grown.  We also got to eat a kind of sweet bread that is popular in Honduras.  They have a subsistence farm, growing corn and beans.  They also have a few chickens.  They live on about $500 a year.  I think our group was touched by the warmth of their hospitality, and the love that was obvious between the family members.  It is tough, because the students we visited only get to go home a few times a year, since the journey is so difficult without a car.

We got back to the farm in time for lunch, and then had a game of frisbee and just hung out with the boys.

Around 2:30 we left to visit another student's house, close by in Talanga.  We got to drive through Talanga, which is a city with few houses higher than two stories, and most of them of adobe with tile roofs.  We were also warmly welcomed at that home.

We went from there to the Episcopal Church, where we were about half the congregation.  I was able to be the celebrant.  We were all introduced, and had a chance to present ourselves to the group.

After church we had just a few minutes till dinner, after which the boys implored our group to come spend some time with them.  An enthusiastic soccer tournament followed!

It gets dark here around 6:30, so the nights seem long.  The boys go to bed by 9:00 PM, then all is quiet.

This continues to be a blessed time for us.  I hope soon so get some pictures posted.

We thought of Grace/ La Gracia this morning during the services.  We feel privileged to be able to be here.
